Kevin, Oxford brown is a darker brown with no red. I would be careful of applying too much stain as it may not be able to penetrate into the wood properly.

I purchased 5 gallons of the semi-solid Woodland which came out redder than we thought based on the color chart above. We we're looking for a chocolate brown in a semi-solid. 2 questions, can we cover the stain with one that is darker, and what would be closest to what we want which is a chocolate brown?

The higher the solids, the better the UV protection.

Is there any difference with the UV protection provided by the different stains? I'm at 5500 feet elevation in the desert - receiving intense direct sunlight. I'm looking for a medium or somewhat dark brown.

Armstrong is typically reapplied every couple of years on horizontal surfaces. I can be applied to all wood types as long as the wood is prepped correctly.

Your site doesn't explain how to maintain deck after it is stain. How frequently does this need to be applied? Can I use it on pecky cypress?

Mahogany is a semi-transparent.

Amber is a transparent but contains 3 times the amount of trans oxides of the other transparent colors. This gives much better UV protection and why it costs more.

Woodland Brown is a semi-solid.

You can use both of those colors for what you are trying to do.

I have a new picture frame style deck. I want to stain the frame in a dark color and the interior planks in a lighter color. I was leaning toward the Mahogany and Amber colors, but also wanted to preserve the wood grain by using a semi-transparent stain. Suggestions?

Cedar-semi will retain color longer then the Cedar Tone. Maybe 50% longer.

Coverage for rough wood is more like 150-200 per gallon.

It can be sprayed but you would need to back brush drips.

Month should be okay for drying.

I just installed a cedar privacy fence. Some of the wood is still wet (a few drops of water from the screws I put in while mounting the pickets). My wife would like the fence stained and wants to stay as close to the natural cedar color as possible. She also wants to avoid graying. Would the Cedar Semi or Cedar Tone be better? How much longer would the Cedar Semi last and how much better the UV protection (due to the pigmentation)? How much coverage could I expect- 200 - 250 square feet/gallon? Can I use a Wagner power sprayer (I know a brush is preferred but it's a big fence)? I live in Austin, TX so it'll get a lot of sun, not a lot of water (some sprinkler system blowover). The cedar pickets are rough cut so they should absorb stain well now but I'd like them to dry a bit- is a month about the right time to wait? Please advise- thank you.

It would be best to remove the old stain first so the Armstraong can properly penetrate into the wood. This can typically be done with a stain stripper. Once done I would suggest the Oxford Brown

The deck of our new house was stained a red tinted brown colr but it was uneven and some parts were never stained. We are looking to have it power washed and re-stained with a darker brown to cover all of the deck and cover the existing stain. I need a darker color and would be interested in something almost espresso. Any suggestions?

The Mahogany color is a very nice red color with a hint of brown. It would look very nice.
