So my deck is 6 years old, and I did all of the prep work, some of the boards definitely needed a second coat because of the weathering. But I have some of the deck not drying because of the second coat. Should I just use paper towels to get the excess stuff that won’t absorb or a towel ?
Towel. Make sure to saturate all oily rags in water and lay them flat to dry outside when done.

Yes. You need to weather all wood fully exposed for at least 3 months and then prep.

I’m looking to stain new (1 year old) Siberian larch decking (deep grain brushed) in semi solid oil in a deep brick or mahogany starting in late September in Massachusetts. 1. Will there be enough drying time before the inclement weather? 2. Will it be dry to the touch in a few days or will it always have a residue? 3. What is the best applicator, brush or pad?

No, you can never apply urethane over an exterior wood/deck stain. Urethanes will peel on outside wood.

You cannot stain if the wood is wet. Has to be fully dry. On a fence, 3-7 years.

Hi again. Thanks for your recent response. My pressure treated pine deck is 8 years old and was stained with your product. I’ve now pressure washed, stripped and brightened and now ready to stain again. I noticed very little fuzzing on some boards and questioning if this should be sanded. I’ve read that sanding pressure treated wood is contradicted. Your thoughts pls.?

Good Day: I have a townhouse and had a fence installed for my backyard; it is only 400 sq feet. How much of your Wood Deck & Fences would I need? Also with the company that built my fence suggested ry 3 years I stain my fence and start with clear, then natural, golden, cedar, etc… My backyard gets a lot sun – in the summer from 0700 – 7/8 p.m. therefore, I want to make sure I purchase the correct color/stain. 3-4 gallons should cover this. Do not start with a clear, go straight to a tinted color. Any color you like will work.
Me again. I’ve cleaned my deck with Bob Villa’s Oxy/water/dishwashing liquid. Half the deck is in shade and its had three years to build up some mildew. I’d say maybe 40% of it came off in the cleaning. Thats after some good scrubbing. I have my AC Driftwood stain ready to go but worried that it will affect adherence/colour. Should I sand it down (ugh!) or move forward? Or do you have some secret technique before staining.

I had front door stairs built last year (made with tigerwood) in November. It was too wet and cold to apply any protection then. I just learned about your product and want to make sure I buy the right color. I was told it came in a clear, but do not see that color option with the Armstrong Clark Hardwood/Ipe Stain 1 Gallon. Can you please advise what color option is best for tigerwood? Also, should stairs be washed before applying stain?
AC stains do not come in Clear and it has 3 colors that are to be used for hardwoods like your Tigerwood. Amber, Mahogany, or Black Walnut. Many use the Amber color.

Yes, just do not over-apply the stain and do not use the semi-solid colors. The transparent and semi-transparent colors are okay.

Stripping is better for prep as it leaves the wood more porous.

I just purchased 2-5 gallon containers of Amber stain after receiving a reply to my question about timing of staining in Northwest Illinois. Your answer was I could apply the stain as long as the temperature was above 50 degrees. Since receiving the stain, the weather has not cooperated and we are getting a lot of rain and are starting to lose our temperatures. Can the stain be applied if the daytime temperature is over 50 degrees even if the nighttime temperatures fall into the 40’s? If I can, how long would I expect it to take to dry? Secondly, I am hoping for a period of Indian Summer but if we don’t get it, will the stain go bad if I store it in a temperature controlled area over the winter and try to use it the beginning of next summer?
It can fall below 50 at night but it cannot drop below freezing. It will be fine as long as it is not opened and stored correctly.

I have the Semi-transparent Driftwood for my cedar deck. I would like to see more grain and yet have some UV protection. Is it ok for me to wipe the stain a few minutes after applying it?
No, you cannot back wipe it right away as you will remove the curing oils. You can if needed after 60 minutes.
